An Executive Gains Confidence Leading a Large Global Organization

Case Study

Background

After years rising through the ranks in a major organization, a senior leader stepped into a new role leading a global function of 5,000 people for the first time. Key questions that arose included: How do you hire, support, and manage executives who themselves run larger operations? How do you lead a senior team at this altitude? How do you extract yourself from operational details in order to think strategically and lead boldly and decisively?

This transition required him to redefine his leadership to be more visionary and more intentional about where he focused his time and energy. He knew that leading at this level wasn’t simply a bigger version of what he had done before—it required fundamentally different ways of operating.

Approach

This multi-year coaching engagement was designed to meet the leader where he was and help him grow into the role. The work began by establishing trust and gaining a deep understanding of his context and challenges. Coaching sessions served as a sounding board for the toughest and most time-sensitive issues he faced, with Eric providing both guidance and support.

A pivotal moment in the engagement came with a comprehensive 360° feedback process, which surfaced candid insights from a range of stakeholders, sparking important shifts in leadership behavior and self-awareness.
